We are investigating reports of a derailment at Alexandria Yard at approximately 10:00 PM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 involving a non-revenue 6-car train moving in one of the yard’s storage tracks.
Damage was reported to cars 5161 and 6175, which were two of the trailing four cars of the train.
Additional damage was reported to the 3rd rail next to where the train derailed, and WMATA track and power crews were en route to investigate and determine next steps.
Metro Transit Police confirms there were no injuries reported due to the incident.
The cause of the derailment is not yet known.
