Incident Summary – June 16, 2019 Red Line Single Tracking due to Dislodged Wire

On Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 9:22AM EDT, Silver Spring bound Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) Train 203 while four thousand and eighty five feet away and in approach to Friendship Heights station reported that a wire and the conduit it was encased in had become dislodged from the ceiling of the tunnel and was fouling the dynamic envelope of rail traffic (the space the train occupies while moving). Three trains (Train 203; 204; and 105) made contact with the obstacle resulting in minor scratches to the trains.

Glenmont bound trains were single tracked at Bethesda via the Shady Grove platform from 9:40AM to just after 12:15PM while Emergency Response Team and WMATA support personnel responded to remove the conduit which was completed at 11:58AM
